An Open Letter to Lubbock Mayor and City Council
Dear Mayor McDougal and Lubbock City Council Members:
Linda DeLeon, Floyd Price, Gary Boren, Phyllis Jones, Tom Martin and Jim Gilbreath:
|
I am writing to ask for your help in improving East 16th Street from the tri-corner of Idalou Road, Vanda Street and E. 16th to the corner of Cherry and E. 16th.
This improvement would be a distance of about 0.41 miles. Currently, this section of E. 16th Street is strip paved and very narrow. It is also in constant need of maintenance.
Mr. Mayor (and council) this street is traveled on a weekly basis by about 1000 vehicles. Since the road serves St. Patrick Catholic Church at 1603 Cherry (Corner of E. 16th) the traffic is almost exclusively (used by) families driving to and from worship services and the sundry weekday activities of the parish.
This is the second time I have asked City Hall to improve this street. My first request was to Councilman Floyd Price at a town hall meeting about 1 (one) year ago. In addition, Father Cornelio C. Ramirez, the Pastor at St. Patrick has, for about 10 years, asked for this improvement.
I am forwarding this correspondence to the Lubbock Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and other Hispanic organizations to endorse.
Fr. Ramirez and I are motivated solely because of our concern for the safety of families driving on E 16th. Please help us resolve this public safety issue. Your help is greatly appreciated.
Sincerely,
John P. Cervantez, Lubbock via email
