The Dallas Morning News reported this past Tuesday that 160 central staff positions were cut from the Dallas Independent School District administrative staff in order to address a very substantial budget shortfall.
The jobs elimination came about as a result of an $84 million dollar revenue shortage. The cuts affected workers from switchboard operators to administrators according to the news report.
But the expected savings of up to $3.6 million dollars will hardly put a dent in the expected budget shortfall. Superintendent Michael Hinojosa has recommended employee cuts of up to 1,209 positions but so far the Dallas ISD Board has resisted the cuts. Hinojosa had previously told the board that “it costs the district approximately $1.5 million each week there is a delay in addressing this deficit”.
