The Guadalupe Neighborhood Association has been informed that two concrete batch plants to be built by Highland Concrete Company north of the neighborhood and across the Arroyo has been approved by Texas Commission on Environmental Quality.
The plant’s planned location is 401 N. Ave K; an area in close proximity to the residents of Guadalupe neighborhood.
Guadalupe Neighborhood residents and the association are determined to prevent these two concrete batch plants from being built in light of the health hazards they will pose to the children, elderly, and general population of Guadalupe.
They invite all citizens of the City of Lubbock to support the association’s efforts to maintain a safe and wholesome environment. It is especially disturbing that an area like the Arroyo which the association, residents, and volunteers helped to clean up and bring back to life over the past couple of years could now be at risk of becoming a repository for contaminated water and concrete sludge runoff.
For more information call Carlos Quirino, Jr. at 806-765-7940 or Victor Hernandez at 806-765-5481.
The association has planned a news conference for Friday February 26, 2010 at the proposed site in order to address this latest development in their fight against the plants being built.
