On April 6th 1813, after a year of bloody warfare Jose Bernardo Gutierrez de Lara Uribe, declared that Texas was free and independent of Spanish rule. The First Texas Republic…the forgotten history of our Tejanos, these first sons and daughters of the State of Texas, unknown and unrecognized for their ultimate sacrifice.
The Tejano Geneaology Society of Austin and San Antonio wants to make sure that Texans know another side to the history concerning Texas independence.
The public is invited to the 4th annual reenactment of the “Tejano Declaration of Independence,” to be celebrated in San Antonio on Saturday April 10th, 2010 at 2 P.M. in front of the Spanish Governors Palace 105 Plaza de Armas. As the battle with the State Board of Education has proven, we must tell our own stories, otherwise they will never be known.
Maclovio Perez, a TV personality from San Antonio will emcee the event. Scheduled to speak will be scholars of Texas History; Dr Emilio Zamora from The University of Texas, Robert Thonhoff past president of the Texas State Historical Association, Major General Freddie Valenzuela USA (retired) and author Dan Arellano. Several resolutions for the “Battle of Medina,” will be presented to the community of Losoya, Texas
Scheduled to play will be “Los Texas Wranglers.” Bring your lawn chairs and enjoy an afternoon of Tejano history and Tejano music.
Join us as we celebrate the most important day in Tejano History “The First Texas Republic,” the “Emerald Green Flag,” and the “Battle of Medina.” The event is free and open to the public.
