DISTRICT 1 RACE ENDS IN RUNOFF BETWEEN HERNANDEZ AND ROBERTSON

Bookmark and Share

He came close...but it wasn't quite over the 50% that he needed.

The District 1 race between Victor Hernandez, Glen Robertson and Rafael Gutierrez resulted in none of the candidates being able to garner over 50% of the vote in order to avoid a runoff.

With all precincts counted, Hernandez led all candidates with nearly 48%, Robertson received nearly 46%, and Gutierrez played the spoiler role, or as some had speculated, the vote splitter with 7%.

Hernandez and Robinson will meet in a runoff election on June 12, 2010.

Other results in the city election saw no surprises. Tom Martin won reelection with 67% of the vote and Karen Gibson won the right to represent District 5 with close to 80% of the total.

Here are results:

Lubbock Mayor

Tom Martin 67%

Cody Smart 21%

Richard Quade 5%

Roger Settler 7%

Lubbock City Council, District 1

Glen Robertson 45.5%

Victor Hernandez 47.5%

Rafael Gutierrez 7%

Lubbock City Council, District 5

Karen Gibson 78%

Stephan Lampman 21%
