Rafael Gutierrez, who ran against Victor Hernandez and Glen Robertson for the District 1 Lubbock City Council seat has endorsed Victor Hernandez in the June 12 runoff.
Early voting has begun in the run-off as of Tuesday June 1; with close to 180 voters casting their vote on Tuesday.
Gutierrez who came in third with almost 7% of the vote told El Editor that: “When I began my campaign, I had several goals; one was to meet as many of the residents of District 1 as possible. So, I walked the streets and knocked on doors, met and shook lots of hands. Some people made me feel so comfortable that we even talked about District 1 past, present and future. Even at one time I was welcomed into their lawns and had a beer with some residents in the district.”
Gutierrez says that it was times like these that made him more involved in what he was doing.
After meeting with some community members who asked him to consider endorsing Hernandez,
“Victor is the best candidate and he understands and takes the district with a passion. He has the experience and yes experience counts”. He also stressed the importance of Hernandez’s experience in the law and the US military.
Hernandez issued a statement concerning the endorsement: “I am pleased with Rafael’s endorsement and he is a young man with a political future and I wish him well. I also welcome his friendship and his input just like anyone else to help for the betterment of district one.”
