The organization recently formed in Lubbock to fight against laws like the anti immigrant law passed in Arizona is holding a candlelight vigil on Tuesday July 27.
Two days before the law known as SB 1070 is scheduled to go into effect, the group will hold the vigil from 8-9 PM at Lubbocks Higginbothom Park located on west 19th street between Quaker and Slide Rd.
According to a statement issued by the organization, they "want to witness against the discrimination and violation of civil rights in this law, even as Texas legislators are planning to introduce similar laws in the next session".
Participants are urged to bring a lawn chair and their own candles; although some candles will be provided for those unable to.
The event is sponsored by Lubbocks CIUDAD, Citizens In United Discourse Against Discrimination. For more information contact Daniel Sanchez at 806-544-6301.
