Editorial: The City Council BLINKED !!!

It’s easy to forgive the Lubbock City Council’s ignorance, but, STUPIDITY is not forgivable especially when they pretend to be ignorant. Feigning ignorance is something that only a City Council would aspire to. In the political fight of the week in which the Lubbock City Council challenged Councilman Victor Hernandez, it’s obvious that Lubbock’s governing body’s brains turn to mush.
By now every person in Lubbock has heard about Lubbock’s biggest political fight since Tom Martin blocked the hiring of Tommy Gonzales as City Manager, because as Tom Martin said, “He is too young.” Mr. Tommy Gonzales left Lubbock to accept a higher paying job in a much more prestigious city as City Manager. The Tommy Gonzales story has a happy ending but, the fight against Victor Hernandez has yet to be played out.
Bad judgment was rampant at City Hall all week long. City Hall should have ignored the ranting of the local shock jock who is now claiming to be Lubbock’s newest investigative reporter. In fact this story first broke in May 2010. The headline belongs to KCBD TV news.
City Attorney Sam Medina committed the first and STUPIDEST act of all. He is a trained lawyer and judge. If anyone on the city staff should know better, it is Sam Medina. Mr. Medina’s action is beyond all reason and understanding. The City Attorney’s advice to the City Council was worthy of a freshman year pre-law student.
When he first asked Councilman Victor Hernandez about the alleged indebtedness to the city, Councilman Hernandez told him that there was no indebtedness at all. He explained to Mr. Medina that he had made payment arrangements with the Lubbock Central Appraisal District (LCAD). Since ...
