The Guadalupe Neighborhood Association will once again bring volunteers together to continue the cleanup of “el arroryo”; as it is known to residents of the neighborhood.
The area is also known as Lubbock Canyon Lakes #3.
The cleanup will take place March 5, 2011 between the hours of 8:00AM and 12 Noon.
For close to 4 years, Carlos and Lile Quirino, who are officers in the association have coordinated clean up efforts and have brought attention to the area.
“For almost 4 years Barrio residents and volunteers have worked hard to clear the area to the North of AZTLAN Park, we are now ready to undertake Phase II of this effort from Avenue Q to the railroad truss bridge @ Avenue J. Everyone is welcome”, said Carlos Quirino, President of the association.
Volunteers are being asked to volunteer their time and tools like rakes, shovels, bow saws, chainsaws, and any other gardening tools they may have. Volunteers will be “trimming trees, cutting weeds, picking up debris, and doing anything to make this area more beautiful and safe for all to enjoy”, according to the association’s press release.
Breakfast and lunch will be made available for volunteers who work from 8:00 A.M. to 12:00 Noon.
The association also appreciates the following sponsors for their contributions to this clean up effort: Atmos Energy, Amigos, United Supermarkets, Wal-Mart Stores, and El Editor Newspaper.
Persons wishing to help are asked to meet at the corner of North Avenue L and Cesar E. Chavez Blvd. at 8:00 A.M. on Saturday the 5th.
For more information, please call Carlos or Lile Quirino at: (806) 747-3732.
