This past weekend was again the Harrell/Crabtree show. Three of Graham’s six TD’s came way of Crab as the Rice Owl’s were plucked in front of sparse crowd which appeared to be yet another home game for Tech on the road.
Houston TX -- With their third straight Conference USA opponent, Texas Tech traveled down to Houston to face an old Southwest Conference foe in the Rice Owls. The 111 heat index was not nearly enough to stop the Air Raid which was lead by Graham Harrell. Harrell turned in yet another outstanding performance in going 28/37 for 414 yards and tying his career high with 6 touchdown passes. Eleven different receivers touched the ball as Tech scorched the Owls 59-24. Junior wide receiver Grant Walker earned his first career touchdown when he hauled in a 38 yard strike from Harrell midway through the first quarter.
Eleven of Harrell's 28 completions came by way of phenomenal freshman Michael Crabtree. In only his third game, Crabtree caught 11 passes for 244 yards and three touchdowns. The performance helped earn him Big 12 offensive player of the week honors. In just three games, Crabtree has 38 receptions, 538 receiving yards, and 8 touchdown receptions. With this blistering start, he is well on his way to shattering multiple NCAA receiving records. With the tremendous early success of Crabtree a question that has to be asked is whether or not Harrell is looking too much at Crabtree and perhaps should be focusing on spreading the ball around.
